About the object
Morat portrays the Rhine near Kadelburg as a navigable river. Small boats and a raft are visible on the water, while the reaction ferry conveys a hay cart across the river. However, it seems that it is not the ferry but the parish church of St. Martin that has aroused the interest of the man with the telescope, incorporated into the composition as staffage.
