About the object
Freiburg, double-quadruple coin (Doppelvierer = 4 Rappen resp. 2 x 4 Stäbler) in accordance with the coinage treaty of the Rappen Coinage League of 1498, with the emblem of the city mint (eagle's or raven’s head) on the obverse and an equal-armed cross on the reverse. Coins of the same type were minted in the other mints of the Confederation - Basel, Breisach, Colmar and Thann.
