Utagawa Kunisada
Woman Gathering Ferns, 1830er Jahre
About the object
In keeping with a spring ritual, a geisha gathers bracken in order to prepare it for cooking at home. It would have been deep fried as tempura. The three poets Tokotei Hidemaru, Tosentei Yoshinari and Wachikutei Sunao likewise address this theme in their printed poems.
