Parody of the nō play Takasago, um 1820

About the object

The print parodies the traditional Noh piece Takasago. This celebrates the love of couples married for a long time: an elderly couple are cleaning the area beneath the pines together. In this parody, in place of the old couple we see a courtesan and a fashionable bon vivant.
