About the object
This face mask is made from the same fabric as that of the robes worn by Buddhist monks. The colour, a striking, dark orange, is called พระราชทาน, Royal Gift Colour. The masks complement the robes worn by the Dhammayut Community of the Thai Theravada Buddhist monks, which was founded in 1833 by King Mongkur (Rama IV). The mask was purchased from a shop that also sold gifts and offerings for the monks and temples in Bangkok.
