Anton Sohn
The Gold Scrapers, um 1830
About the object
This terracotta group of figures is one of the Zizenhauser Terrakotten by Anton Sohn, a church painter who was famous for his satirical figures. It depicts a scene at the usurers. He used a drawing by Hieronymus Hess as a template. The stereotypical depiction of the figures is unambiguously anti-Semitic.
