About the object
The Freiburg-based sculptor Friedrich Meinecke made and sold figurines to ethnological museums, among others. He used photographs by the Swiss anthropologist Fritz Sarasin (1859-1942) to create the "Vedda Woman". He probably used images of different people for the head and body. For the head fragment shown here, he possibly used the image of the Wedda woman Tuti from the Kolonggale settlement, Sri Lanka.
