About the object

The velocity of the lines dominates the look of this painting. The speed of the painting process, through which Disler attempts to override the rational mind and lend expression to emotion, is communicated almost physically to the observer. Disler's works can be read as a form of body language, which, as a result, can dispense with the need for a title.

Martin Disler's art is classified as sensual and anti-conceptual. His paintings, which are heavily influenced by physicality and painterly gestures, revolve around themes such as pain, sexuality and death. His disposition lies in overcoming physical and mental limits: »I the world churns through me like meat in a meat grinder« (Disler). In a similar way to K.O. Götz, he also uses speed in the painting process as a means to override the rational mind and thus lend a more direct expression to an inner emotional world. In this instance, the viewer encounters this immediacy of the painting process as a web of black lines and surfaces that evoke free-flowing associations.
