Johann Baptist Kirner
Clasped hands in the lap of an Italian woman, vor 1834
About the object
In the detailed study of hands folded in the lap, the reference to the painting Italienische Wallfahrer (Italian Pilgrims) only emerges at second glance, inasmuch as the hands are partially concealed by the prostrate girl. The fact that the mother of the infant in the cradle is actually meant here is proven by the small, but carefully studied detail of the cuff of the blouse.
