About the object
The outlines of the composition correspond to the motifs in the painting Italienische Wallfahrer (Italian Pilgrims). However, the tracing does not depict the entire scene: the wayside shrine - replete with tree, vines and agave -is missing here, as is the donkey. Other areas are indicated with a few strokes. Thus, one may assume that Kirner improvised these features relatively freely.
