About the object
The bright colours of this study are captivating - the green watercolours are especially striking. Morat is at pains to capture the sheer vastness of the Wutach valley here. The Maria Himmelfahrt Church (Church of the Assumption of St Mary) stands out on the left, which is a place of pilgrimage. The watercolour provided a template for further gouaches, two of which are well known.
