About the object
As a landmark, the castle hill appears on all the studies of Staufen. In this instance, it features as the central motif, in contrast to Morat's other depictions of castles. While the ruin is only depicted in outline, fields and trees are painted in blue and orange watercolours, resulting in a somewhat abstract composition.
