Rudolf Großmann
Le Rencontre, um 1925-1930
About the object
Rudolf Großmann called this drawing Le Rencontre, “The Encounter”. Two people appear in (half) profile facing one another: artists Rudolf Levy and Alfred Kubin. The former moved to Munich together with Hans Purrmann, where he was part of the Sturmfackel Artists' Association, to which Alfred Kubin also belonged, whence to Paris, where, together with Purrmann and Walter Bondy, he initiated the German-speaking circle of artists at the Café du Dôme – a group to which Großmann also belonged when he was resident in the French capital between 1905 and 1913. It was here that Großmann met Purrmann, with whom he was friends.
