About the object
Thann, Groschen (= 12 Rappen) from 1499 in accordance with the coinage treaty of the Rappen Coinage League of 1498, with the city arms on the obverse and the depiction of St Theobald, patron saint of the collegiate church, standing with his right hand raised in a blessing and bishop's crosier in his left hand on the reverse. Coins of the same type were minted in the other mints of the Confederation - Basel, Breisach, Colmar and Thann.
