Headdress | Ekoli

This ecori headdress is made of leather. It is decorated with three leaf-shaped leather strips and a hanging made from iron beads, characteristic of the headdress of a wealthy married Herero woman. A headdress of this design, together with the rest of the leather garments, refers to the closeness of the Herero people to their cattle. Cattle guaranteed wealth and well-being and were regarded as independent personalities with magical abilities.
