This knife with three crosses etched into the blade affords special protection against the »Schrättele« - a demonic female figure from the Swabian Alemannic »Fasnet'« or carnival. She is wont to sit on the chests of people as they lie sleeping and robs them of their slumber or harms the cattle in the stable. In order to protect yourself, you place the knife on your chest or in the manger in the cattle shed.
