ear jewellery

About the object

Ear jewellery worn by the Asmat menfolk from southwest New Guinea. The upper part consists of a cassowary quill, which is bent so that the pointed end can be passed through the earlobe. At the same time, it can be inserted into the opening at the end of the hollow quill, thus forming a perfect clasp. Earrings were worn in pairs.
