Johann Baptist Kirner
Old Black Forest woman with eyeshade and playing cards in her right hand, sitting at a table, vor 1846
About the object
The figure of the fortune-teller woman provides the title for the painting. She is the main player here, who lays out the cards for her young visitor and tells him his future. It is possible that Kirner was portraying Smith-Lene from Furtwangen. Apparently, he knew this fortune-teller personally.
