The older brother has put his hand on the shoulder of his younger sibling. In keeping with the Romantic ideal, Kirner succeeds in lovingly capturing the emotional bond between the brothers in this double portrait. And what is more: through the gaze of the two, we too become part of this intimate, albeit staged, scene.
