Maria Marga Thomass
Three-quarter-length of a Boy with Closed Eyes, vor 1939
About the object
The boy's thrown back head appears at first to be a spontaneous gesture of over-excitement. Closer inspection reveals that the model has fallen asleep, in an uncomfortable seated posture with his mouth slightly open. By omitting the backrest, Thomass recalls - for example - the depictions of saints by Guido Reni.
