About the object
A boat with its pilot can be seen next to a quay, located in a bay with several large three-storey villas and tea houses, located on Chūzenji Lake, close to Nikkō. During the Meiji period (1868-1912), this was a popular summer resort with many villas owned by foreigners and embassies. The colourist has added autumnal trees and a sunset in the distance for atmospheric effect.
