Whereas Kawasaki is now a major industrial centre with many large factories, at the time this photograph was taken, it was a small, riverside village on the Tōkaidō Road. Travellers, including a rickshaw and its puller, are being carried across on a ferry. Loaded packhorses can be seen in the background.
