A fisherman is standing at the edge of his boat and is raising a complex fishing net, creating, at the same time, a mirror image in the coastal waters below. The time of day seems to be dusk; the colourist has created a darkening sky with the last intimation of a sinking sun in order to create a romantic vision of the Japanese countryside. Formed by horizontal and diagonal lines, this masterful composition seems to focus on the standing figure at the centre.
