About the object
A procession of Buddhist monks can be seen along a public street. Multitudes of ordinary citizens, assembled for the occasion, are standing behind them. This was possibly for the funeral of a famous person. People who went to the funerals in order to pay their respects typically received a gift of some kind in return.
