Interior View of the Horikiri Iris Garden in Tokyo, 1860 - 1880
About the object
This privately-run garden was a popular site in June, when thousands of irises were in bloom. Admission was charged and in addition, the establishment made a profit via the teahouses, where, as seen here, visitors were seated on benches with views of the garden and were served by waitresses wearing kimonos.
