Plasterers at Work, 1880 - 1920
About the object
Although the captions state that these workmen are carpenters, they are actually plasterers, whose work was essential in making thick walls for homes and also for storehouses. In the photograph, plaster – a mixture of straw, clay and other materials – is being applied to a wall. Wooden beams were then used to create a uniform thickness to the plaster.
