About the object
Here we again have the famous Oyoshi, holding a day parasol. Described variously as an “officer’s daughter,” a Japanese Eurasian woman and even as Beato’s daughter, she seems, in fact, to have been a countryside carpenter’s daughter who worked as a geisha entertainer and a hairdresser.
