Silver Pavilion, Kyoto, 1880 - 1920
About the object
One of the oldest wooden structures in Kyoto, the Silver Pavilion was constructed in the mid fifteenth century, in the middle of a raging civil war, as part of Shōgun Yoshimasa’s (1436-1490) personal sanctuary. In this photograph, a male visitor poses by the adjoining lake.
