Wedding Ceremony next to Paravent, 1880 - 1920
About the object
A staged wedding scene with the bride and groom on the side of the man’s parents – or possibly match makers. The bride is wearing a headdress called tsunokakushi (“horn hiding cloth”) that supposedly hides her horns until after marriage. Behind them we see a fine Kanō-school screen painting of cranes in a bamboo grove.
