Yōmeimon Gate, Tōshōgū Shrine, 1880 - 1920
About the object
The Yōmeimon Gate at the Tōshōgū Shrine is arguably the highpoint of any visit to the site. Fitted with over five hundred separate carvings, it is also called the Gate of the Setting Sun as one can supposedly look at it all day until the sun sets and not get tired of the innumerable details.
