About the object
The altarpiece originates from the Chapel of the Virgin Mary of the former Cistercian monastery Tennenbach near Emmendingen. The year 1721 has been painted onto it and most certainly relates to the date of the altarpiece's actual construction. However, the sculptures are older and probably originated before or around 1600.
