Utagawa Hiroshige
The misty moon above the ocean near Tsukudajima island from the series »Famous Sites of the Eastern Capitol«, 1837/38
About the object
Engulfed nowadays by Tokyo's sprawl, Tsukuda was once a fishing village on the coast. It was built on a piled-up sandbank, after a whole settlement along with its shrine was moved there. Some of the old buildings - situated among the skyscrapers - have miraculously survived.
