About the object

The relief is part of a series dedicated to the life and passion of Christ. The 12-year-old Jesus is depicted here among the scholars in the temple. The Augustiner Museum's collection also includes scenes of the mocking, flagellation and crucifixion of Christ. Further surviving panels exist in Stuttgart and in private ownership. The erstwhile compilation and function of the reliefs, which arose just before the Reformation iconoclasm, is unclear.
