About the object

Ladles were used across the entire Admiralty Islands. The handles themselves come in many different shapes and sizes and vary depending on their provenance. Only the indigenous islanders would be able to provide an interpretation of what the individual shapes signify. Ethnological literature provides only one reference to these ladles, namely that they are used in a ceremonial context and kept in the men's houses.
