About the object
This abstract bronze sculpture is Priska von Martin's homage to the Expressionist Paul Klee. As a formal visual element, the line is dominant in this work, in keeping with Klee's works. Sculptural form and volume, otherwise important stylistic means in von Martin's sculpture, are secondary concerns here. The sculpture is two-dimensional, like Klee's drawings. In addition to Paul Klee, von Martin also engaged with works by Pablo Picasso, whom she particularly admired, Henri Matisse and Max Ernst.
