Receptacle for a wax disc with the image of the lamb of God ("Agnus Dei"), Ende 15. Jahrhundert
About the object
Under a starry sky on a meadow on the left, we see the Lamb of God with a fluttering flag bearing a symbol of the cross and to right, St Veronica with her sacred veil or sweat-cloth. The two round discs - shown here individually - can be clasped together to form a flat capsule, which, when attached to a chain, may also serve as a pendent. It contained a wax medallion made from the residue of consecrated Easter candles.
