Wild boar

The boar is the ancestor of the domestic pig and one of the few large animals that are still wild in Central Europe. It has a bristly, dark brown/blackish fur with a kind of mane along the spine. It is omnivorous, feeding on plants, mushrooms, small animals and carrion. In search of food, it rummages through the soil with its muscular, short snout. This wild boar was taxidermied at the beginning of the twentieth century. Instead of its almost completely brown eyes, a pair of white-rimmed glass eyes were used. They were probably intended to give it an appealing appearance. A more lifelike preparation would be preferred by today's standards.
