About the object
The counterpart to II / 1492, bevelled on the right-hand side, but less finely fashioned. The same height of the boards makes it seem logical to assume that the carvings originated from the same house. The manner of the carvings differs markedly from panel to panel. In a similar way to II / 1492, this panel also contains three faces with the ribs/bodies that go with them, represented by abstract designs, but in this instance only in the upper part, whereas the lower third of the panel is unadorned. It is conceivable that the panel is from another house, a representation of another ancestor or an unfinished piece. Since both items were purchased through a dealer Umlauff, the precise circumstances of the original acquisition in New Zealand cannot be determined further.
