About the object
The two medallions were made for the private commemoration of the union between the deceased couple. The medallions are standing on an altar-like pedestal underlining their function as memorial plaques. The couple's coats of arms have been mounted on the pedestal, while a putto hovers above the medallions. He unites the couple by means of a swathe of cloth, thereby alluding to their matrimonial bond and eternal love. Franz Anton Xaver Hauser was a Freiburg artist and contemporary of Johann Christian Wentzinger.
